Welcome to The Puppet Surgery

An unusual name for a site, one may think, but as the name suggests our goal is to keep the magic art of puppetry alive and well for future generations to discover and enjoy.

The site is designed to be a free resource tool for enthusiasts, amateurs and professionals alike also a place to talk about puppetry through the message board.

We aim to cover all aspects of the art of puppetry but primarily construction, staging, lighting and most importantly manipulation and performance. A puppet doesn't have to be brilliantly constructed, staged or lit if the manipulation and performance of the puppeteer captures your imagination.

A great puppeteer can cast a spell over any unsuspecting audience with something as simple as a shadow cast from his hand, a wooden spoon or even a discarded sock.

The Puppet Surgery aims to dispel the late twentieth century myth, created by television, that puppets are just for children. However, you will discover reading through the site, puppets are most definitely for adults to enjoy too.

On a final note, The Puppet Surgery can not close this section without mentioning the late and great Bob Pelham and his puppet creations, Pelham Puppets. The creator of 'The Puppet Surgery', Keith J. , acknowledges Pelham Puppets as the inspiration for this site and has devoted a section just to them.
