Many Pelham Puppets that have come The Puppet Surgery's way have needed some attention from something as simple as a new piece of string to the complete reconstruction of a smashed display Unicorns head or a Father Bears completely missing snout. (Please scroll down for examples of restoration work).
Restoration on the whole should be kept to a minimum where possible. Most restoration jobs as a rule are quite simple and easily achieved by anyone with an interest. Some leave others more than a little daunted at what appears to be quite complex, demanding a talent they fear they do not have.
The Surgery was created to inspire others and take away some of the mystery of restoration enough for people to feel confident to restore a Pelham Puppet to its former glory themselves. If you would like to see photographs of before and after projects, read advice and ideas for restoring come and join the club free and see for yourself by visiting our [Surgery Message Board]
The panel is out on restoration. Some feel passionately that they should not be touched and left as found whilst others find it difficult to let something slip away that could so easily be saved. Of course there is always the concern regarding fakes, which all collectors are passionately against and which the Surgery does not advocate in any way at all.
